Waltah Boy underwent a “routine” heart surgery at
Kaiser Moanalua on May 2, 2007. He then returned home
to recuperate. Due to complications he was
medivaced back to Honolulu on June 13, 2007
where he remains at this time.

We are asking the community for prayer and, if can,
financial contributions for the Tavares Family to aid them
in this time of need.

Update - 2/14/2008

 Five weeks following an open heart surgery to replace a faulty mitral-valve, Walter experienced back to back cardiac arrests. Two days following the cardiac arrests, Walter was doing remarkably well. At that time he was scheduled for another surgery to alleviate liquid that was building up in the sac surrounding his heart. (His body was reacting to the recent invasive surgery and was producing more liquid than necessary around his heart, thus the cause of the cardiac arrests).

Unfortunately, prior to his next surgery he went into cardiac arrest a third time. At this point, many of his body parts had shut down and he suffered a brain injury because he was without oxygen for at least twenty minutes.  Over the next few months and lots and lots of prayers, Walter has come through this amazing ordeal. We thank God for His miracle working power and give Him all the glory!

Walter has been home now since December and is doing well.  He has been doing speech and occupational outpatient therapy. We are currently awaiting word to go to the Centre for Neuro Skills in California where we believe he will get the intensive daily therapy that he needs at this point.
